Often there are rules and recommendations seem simple and self explanatory to the writer but confusing to the reader.
This can be for a few reasons but one is about the edge cases. When you’re reading you have to think about how you apply them. How they apply to your situation.
Keep it simple
When you’re making recommendations for people keep them simple. Reducing the complexity means there should be fewer edge cases that can apply. Read it from the other persons perspective. How would you apply this if you were them?
If we can keep things simple we won’t need the TL;DR block in our explanations. We are also then removing barriers for our audience to comply with the rules or recommendations.
Show the reason
When something is going to be onerous for people to comply with explain the reason why but also how following the recommendations with help the situation.
Together we can make things smoother and easier for others if we take time the time to simplify our explanations. Just remember KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
